The Road That’s Really a Trip
Coffee Table Book
A large-format publication designed to celebrate the Togwotee Trail, capturing its history, beauty, and role as a successful alternative route to Yellowstone.
The Idea
With primary access points to Yellowstone undergoing major reconstruction, the Togwotee Trail became a critical alternative.
The book was created as both a reflection and a celebration of that effort. It documents how the campaign helped reposition the trail while telling the larger story of its history and landscape.
Developed through an intensive, collaborative working session, the entire book was mapped in real time with the client. This established structure, pacing, and narrative before design began.
Execution
The design brings that story to life through:
A blend of archival and contemporary imagery to connect past and present
Layered typography and texture that reflect history and place
A pacing system that moves between intimate detail and expansive landscape
Full-bleed moments that highlight the scale and beauty of the trail
Each spread builds on the last. The result is a sense of movement that mirrors the journey itself.y itself.
